Orange Housing Authority Begins Demolition Work on Phase III of the Dr. Walter G. Alexander Village Redevelopment
Orange, New Jersey – On Monday, August 5, 2013, the Housing Authority of the City of Orange (OHA) commenced its demolition in preparation of Phase III of the Dr. Walter G. Alexander Village Redevelopment. This highly anticipated redevelopment will be located on the corners of Parrow Street and Oakwood Avenue and on Wilson Place.
Encompassing seven (7) lots, Phase III will be a continuation of the current Dr. Walter G. Alexander Village. A total of 42 units will be constructed, consisting of a 16-unit three (3) story building on Parrow Street and a four (4) story residential building of 26 units on Wilson Place which will include 4,000 square feet of community space. The two (2) buildings in Phase III are designed to complement both the family and senior buildings which were built in the earlier phases. The townhouse style three (3) story units are designed to have individual entrances and no shared space, while the four story building will blend perfectly with the existing structures and neighborhood. The project is expected to be completed in a little over a year.
In conjunction with the Orange Housing Development Corporation (OHDC), OHA recognized the need for improving the community with safe, affordable and quality homes for residents. The new developments attract a workforce population which enhances the neighborhood.
Executive Director, Dr. Walter D. McNeil, Jr. said, “We are excited about beginning the new phase of the redevelopment. We look forward to improving the lives of the people we serve.”
