DEMOLITION BEGINS FOR ORANGE HOUSING AUTHORITY PROJECTS

On February 27, 2013, Demolition begun on 85 Wilson Place. The community room, which was once a place where residents living in the Walter G. Alexander Projects gathered for events and programming is no longer in existence, making room for new residential development.  The demolition will continue the rest of the week, as redevelopment plans for Oakwood Avenue, Parrow Street, and North Parrow Street are underway.

In attendance to witness the first round of demolition was Commissioner, Ernest Williams, Avram White, Esq., Board Chairman, Orange Housing Development Corporation, Orange Housing Authority, Executive Director, Walter McNeil, Jr., and City of Orange Mayor, Dwayne Warren.

Redevelopment on Parrow Street and Wilson Place is part of Phase III, Dr. Walter G. Alexander Village that will consist of 42 tax credit units. The Oakwood Avenue project will consist of eight apartment units that are funded through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NJP3).

The Orange Housing Authority and the Orange Housing Development Corporation have projected both projects to be completed within 18 months. Residents living in the city of Orange will be informed about the application process in the summer, 2014.
